the art of ruddell

My 3D Journey has taken me through three distinctive landscapes:

In the Jaguar Cars Body Engineering department I learned to draw in 2D but to think in 3D. This ability, to look at overlapping views on a general arrangement layout and see a three dimensional object, was something instilled into me by the Jaguar engineers from their many years of experience.

In the Jaguar Styling Studio my journey continued as I expanded my artist's toolkit with magic markers, soft pastels, spray cans and rolls of black tape in order to bring three dimensional designs to life on paper.

3D computer modelling utilises engineering practice but employs the techniques of the artist and the photographer. The results have captivated me ever since I first fell in love with computer visualisation in the heady days the 90s, when Silicon Graphics were at the forefront of the computer graphics revolution.
